Achieved first major international climbing success in 1973 at age 23, including the first one-day ascent of the Via Italiano-Francese on Punta Civetta in the Dolomites and the first winter ascent of the complete Pillar of Kazalnica in the Tatra Mountains.
Wielicki started climbing in Sokoliki in May 1970 at age 20 while studying electronics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He participated in his first climbing course and winter camp in 1972 led by Wanda Rutkiewicz. By 1973, he had achieved significant international climbing successes in the Dolomites and Tatra Mountains, progressing rapidly through the Polish climbing ranks.
