Maynard studied at Queens' College, Cambridge as an undergraduate and completed his DPhil at Balliol College, Oxford under Roger Heath-Brown. Fresh out of graduate school in 2013, he developed a new sieve method that proved bounded gaps between primes, independently of and shortly after Yitang Zhang's breakthrough.
