Anders Hejlsberg
Milestone (age 22)
Turbo Pascal 1.0 was released by Borland in November 1983, based on Hejlsberg's PolyPascal compiler which he wrote starting at age 19-20; it became one of the most commercially successful Pascal compilers of all time.
Hejlsberg attended Holte Gymnasium, one of the first schools in Denmark to offer student computer access, where he learned programming on an HP 2100 in the mid-1970s. He started at the Danish Technical University in 1979 and co-founded PolyData, Copenhagen's first computer store, with college friends. He wrote a Pascal compiler for the Nascom microcomputer, then ported it to CP/M and MS-DOS as Compas Pascal/PolyPascal, which Borland licensed and released as Turbo Pascal in 1983.
