Keep the mechanisms. Drop the identity. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Lim discovered StarCraft in 1998 during his third year at Seongbo High School, initially playing Protoss before switching to Terran after a game patch. Lacking money for his own computer, he practically lived in PC bangs (internet cafes), spending his evenings playing and climbing the Battle.net ladder. He turned professional in 1999, winning his first tournament that year. From 2001 to 2002, he won multiple major championships including two OSL titles and two WCG gold medals, becoming the most popular esports figure in Korea with a fan club of over 600,000 members.
