Resig was born in Boston and started programming around age 13–14 with QBasic, learning HTML from a friend and books his father bought him for Christmas. He studied CS at RIT's Golisano College (2002–2009), conducting research on data mining IM networks with professor Ankur Teredesai and real-time collaboration with professor Jon Schull. He was a member of RIT's Computer Science House. Frustrated by cross-browser JavaScript inconsistencies as a student, he built jQuery in 2005 and released it at BarCamp NYC in January 2006.
