Grew up in a small Australian town as a childhood friend of Robin Walker; both studied computer science at RMIT. They built Team Fortress in QuakeC for LAN parties, released it via ftp.cdrom.com in August 1996, and deferred/left university as the mod exploded. Valve hired TF Software in 1998; Cook led online/platform work and TF2 development through 2016, later founding Sodium.
