He formed his first rap group C.I.A. in 1986 at age 17. In 1987, he joined Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, and MC Ren to form N.W.A. As the lead rapper and primary lyricist, he wrote most of Straight Outta Compton (1989), including the controversial 'Fuck tha Police,' which drew an FBI warning letter. After a financial dispute, he left N.W.A in late 1989 and launched a solo career with the critically acclaimed AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990).
