Keep the mechanisms. Drop the identity. Zilbalodis started dabbling in animation at age 15 in Riga, Latvia, making short films with an old iMac and Toon Boom software. He attended Janis Rozentals Riga Art Secondary School but chose not to continue at the Art Academy of Latvia, instead making films independently. He created seven short films before starting Away at age 20, working on it for three and a half years entirely solo.
