2/24 starting-position score
Strongest documented signals: Direct domain exposure, Adversity / constraint catalyst.
Describes the starting position, not what the person later made of it.
Born in 1964 in Gdańsk, Poland; raised in Pomerania; family background not documented in reviewed sources.
Active polar explorer and founder of the Marek Kamiński Foundation; reached the South Pole with his son Kay in December 2025 at age 61; resides in Sopot, Poland.
Strongest documented signals: Direct domain exposure, Adversity / constraint catalyst.
Describes the starting position, not what the person later made of it.
Strongest observed levers:Started serious reps before 20, Concentration intensity, Domain proximity.
Measures what was present, not whether it was inherited, earned, self-built, external, or mixed.
The timeline below shows the sequence of work and transitions around the selected early milestone. It is evidence of a path, not proof that every step was necessary.
Notable and widely recognized within the domain. The tier summarizes documented career recognition through the data cutoff—not Marek Kamiński's worth or future potential.
Question four · where did the leverage come from?
Each non-zero lever gets a best-supported origin, evidence signals, and confidence. Unresolved is the honest default when the biography cannot distinguish self-built, advantage-enabled, earned, external, or mixed.
No current annotation distinguishes self-built, enabled, or earned origins for this lever.
One or more documented starting advantages plausibly enabled this lever.
One or more documented starting advantages plausibly enabled this lever.
No current annotation distinguishes self-built, enabled, or earned origins for this lever.
No current annotation distinguishes self-built, enabled, or earned origins for this lever.
A structural wave is external to the person, even when their position improved access to it.
This is a bounded inference from the current annotations—not a claim about private effort, merit, or the percentage of Marek Kamiński's outcome attributable to any origin.
Structural luck, Encounter luck, Event luck, Outcome variance can change every arrow in the path. This successful-only dataset cannot observe the near-identical paths that did not break through, so luck stays visible and unscored.
Multiplying capacity documented later in the path. Measures what was present, not whether it was inherited, earned, self-built, external, or mixed.
Access or conditions documented near the beginning of the path. Zero means "no clear evidence in reviewed sources," not "advantage was absent."
Born in Gdańsk and raised in Pomerania; family background not documented in reviewed sources beyond general mention of his upbringing.
Not documented in reviewed sources.
Kamiński grew up in Gdańsk reading adventure literature and began independent travel as a teenager, hitchhiking through Europe and to Cuba and Mexico. By 1990, at age 26, he completed his first solo polar expedition to Spitsbergen (~350 km on skis), which was a material milestone establishing him as a serious polar explorer. Family financial or domain advantages are not documented; his early expeditions appear self-initiated and self-funded. His later achievements (both Poles in 1995) built on this foundational polar experience.
